This trick help you how to share multiple computer to each other within a Workgroup with Windows XP or Vista. Windows XP has in built technique that is called “(ICS) Internet Connection sharing” that allows home user to share internet connection to their connected multiple computers.
If you are not known to how to do network configuration, the simple way to use a Router or Hub to share your internet connection. This trick helpful those who have not a router or Hub and use this technique.
The simple way to understand this first you make your host computer (means the computer which is directly connected to the internet connection) which is performed as router or Hub.
What you are requiring for Internet connection sharing?
A HOST computer on this computer Windows XP is available and this computer requires two adapters.
Adapter 1. One adapter for connect the internet directly to the Host computer.
Adapter 2. This adapter connects to hub if it is available otherwise it is connect to the another computer.
Another computer which is called client computer not requires same operating system. Client computer can directly connect to the cross over cable to the host computer or through Hub to the host computer.
This trick only if Host computer internet connection is working properly.
How to Configure the Host Computer?
- Start your Host computer as Administrator.
- Click on START >> Control Panel
- Click Network and Internet Connection
- Right Click on the Connection that you have to use for internet .This is either a Broad band connection or Dial Up connections depend on your service provider.
- Click Properties.
- Click Advanced Tab
- Under Internet Connection Sharing select the Allow other network user to connect this Internet Connection.
- If you are using Dial Up Internet connection select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet if you want to allow your computer to connect internet automatically.
- Click OK; you will see this type of massage.
When Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, your LAN adapter will be set to use IP address 192.168.0.1. Your computer may lose connectivity with other computers on your network. If these other computers have static IP addresses, it is a good idea to set them to obtain their IP addresses automatically. Are you sure you want to enable Internet Connection Sharing?
- Click Yes.
- Configuring the client computer or sharing computer.
- To use the sharing internet connection to client computer from host computer client computer must configure with “Automatic IP Address”.
Steps
- Configure TCP/IP Automatic IP
- Configure Internet Connection.
The step for above two configuration is vary depend on the operating system you have to use (Vary on Windows version)
Procedure for Configure
- Start your Host computer as Administrator.
- Click on START >> Control Panel
- Click Network and Internet Connection
- Right click on local area connection and click on properties.
- Click general tab >> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click on Properties.
- In Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties and click on obtain an IP address automatically and then click OK.
- Click on START >> Control Panel
- Click Network and Internet Connection
- Click Internet Option.
- In the Internet properties click on connection tab.
- Click the setup and then click on New connection Wizard.
- On Welcome to the new connection wizard page click NEXT.
- Click connects to the Internet and click next.
- Click on Setup my connection manually and click NEXT.
- Click connects using a broadband connection that is always on, click NEXT.
- On finishing of the New Connection Wizard, click Finish.
- Exit Control Panel
- Restart your Computer.
